Yes, the artist is trying to make money by using the panda theme commercially, and what he's doing may be in poor taste, but he isn't harming pandas. (And I seem to recall that no one accused the auto makers of demeaning pandas with the "panda car" that everyone was oohing and aahing over not long ago.) Wild animals are demeaned when they're killed and their fur is turned into coats for humans. They're demeaned when they're killed and their testicles and other body parts are "harvested" for so-called virility treatments for men. If the Chinese are outraged by the exploitation of animals, maybe they should stop harassing a fashion designer who has only used the image and colors of pandas and instead pass laws against killing tigers, bears and other wild creatures to make "medicines" that don't even work.
